A former Arsenal striker has questioned the situation Lucas Perez has found himself in after joining the Gunenrs.
The Spaniard agreed to leave Deportivo La Coruna for a move to the Emirates stadium during the final week of the summer transfer window.
After witnessing Arsenal fail to secure a deal for several transfer targets including Jamie Vardy and Gonzalo Higuan, Perez was viewed as the man to take over the role as Arsenal’s main striker as Olivier Giroud struggled with his fitness.
However, Arsene Wenger has kept the new signing on the bench for much of the season so far while keeping faith in Alexis Sanchez as a centre-forward.
The Arsenal manager’s decision has proven to be the right one for now with his side firing on all cylinders but Ian Wright has questioned the need to purchase Perez if Sanchez was meant to be the preferred option anyway.
“I don’t know what’s happened with Lucas Perez. He has bought him for £17m and he isn’t playing,” Wright told BT Sport.
“Alexis Sanchez is the best person who can be up there doing that [leading] role out of everyone Arsene Wenger has at the moment,” Wright added.
