Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has called for Mikel Arteta to ‘get rid’ of certain players and one of the men who featured in the defence on Sunday against Chelsea has been tipped to be included in the clear-out.

The Gunners faced Chelsea on Sunday, almost seven months after the two sides met in Baku in the Europa League final as Arsenal were thrashed.

Mikel Arteta decided to name a starting eleven which once again saw him mix youth with experience, just as it was against Bournemouth on Thursday.

Arsenal went into Sunday’s clash as underdogs to an extent, even though Chelsea themselves had just been beaten at home by Southampton on Boxing day.

Perhaps against the odds though, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang scored very early in the game to hand the home side a narrow lead which they maintained until the dying minutes.

After a Leno error had gifted Chelsea the equalizer, the Blues then went on to score the winner as Abraham beat Shkodran Mustafi very easily to finish past the Gunners’ goalkeeper.

After watching that slip-up from the Arsenal defence, Ian Wright is calling for Mikel Arteta to get rid of Mustafi as the German continues to struggle, over three years after his north London switch.

“Mustafi was absolutely petrified of him [Abraham],” Wright said, as quoted by Metro

“You have got someone like Arteta coming in but there’s nothing you can do to coach a defender of his experience now, those are the type of players he’s got to be looking to get rid of.”
