Not too long ago, most Arsenal fans did not have a reason to feel optimistic ahead of the new season, but the mood has changed this week after the arrival of the club’s record signing.

Unai Emery had already completed four incoming deals this summer prior to this weekend, with the most significant of them all being the loan deal for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

However, the club had everyone cheering this week as a whopping £72million deal was agreed to sign Nicolas Pepe from Lille.

The deal came at a time when lack of revenue from Champions League football had many believing rumours about the club being on a tight budget this summer.

Pepe, who scored 23 goals last season, is now a Gunner and the 24-year-old has spoken out for the first time after his move to the Emirates stadium.

The Ivorian star, who is now earning £140,000-a-week wages (per the Sun) at the club, has revealed that his decision to join Arsenal was made with his family and agents.

“It was my family and my agents. We talked and thought a lot about it. It was at the time of the CAN [Africa Cup of Nations] as well, we thought a lot during, before and after the CAN. It was important to make the right decision and I am convinced that Arsenal is the right choice.” the Ivory Coast international told the club’s official website
