Arsenal appear to have not given up on their pursuit of a new centre-back signing with the January transfer window now just days away from being closed.

The Gunners have been in serious need of another addition in the defensive department, ever since Calum Chambers succumbed to a knee injury which will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been linked with various transfer targets, but with only days left in the winter transfer window, he is yet to complete his first signing.

Pablo Mari was rumoured to be edging closer to a move to the Emirates stadium last week (as per Goal’s Charles Watts), but a dramatic hiccup in the transfer deal has seen both sides stall on an agreement over terms (Sky Sports).

Nonetheless, according to John Cross, the deal is not dead yet and the Gunners are still looking to sign the Brazilian, even with Shkodran Mustafi surviving an injury scare on Monday.

The Mirror journalist is claiming that Arsenal are ‘still trying’ to get a deal done for Mari, who was previously on the books of Manchester City.
