Arsenal are now edging closer to the completion of a deal to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, according to reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners have been known to be pursuing the Ghanaian star all summer as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his midfield options ahead of another push for a place in the top four of the Premier League.

For several weeks, Arsenal appeared to be incapable of reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the sale of Partey but the club has managed to force through a deal very late in the transfer window.

After rumours of the midfielder travelling to England earlier today to complete his switch to Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano is now reporting that Partey has arrived in London to wrap up the transfer.

The often reliable Italian journalist has also revealed that the 27-year-old will be signing a five-year contract with Arsenal after undergoing a medical at London Colney.

According to Romano, all that remains now is for the Gunners to finish up the formalities of the deal – which includes a payment to La Liga – before the transfer window is closed within the next couple of hours.
