Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Gunners are set to soon complete the signing of Willian ahead of the start of the new season next month.

With the 2019/20 campaign now over, Mikel Arteta will have just over a month to make the necessary moves to strengthen the squad before his first full season as manager of the Gunners.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the acquisition of Willian for several weeks and following the winger’s announcement that he will indeed be leaving Chelsea on Sunday, his move to north London now appears to be imminent.

Indeed according to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are set to complete the signing of Willian as early as next week.

If the often reliable Italian journalist’s claim is true, the Brazilian winger will get the chance to join his new teammates in pre-season training with enough time left before the new campaign begins.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The first thing that has to be pointed out is the timing of the deal. Arteta appears to have gotten things done in time for Willian to start getting used to his new surroundings since there is hardly time available for the team to prepare for the 2020/21 season.

Willian in particular is a player who has always given his all, and his hardworking nature will be appreciated on the flanks, considering how much that trait has been missed since the days of Alexis Sanchez.

Nonetheless, the signing of the Brazilian cannot be the only major deal of the summer by any means, considering the amount of strengthening that is desperately needed in the number 10 role as well as the back four.

Adding a quality centre-back and a gifted attacking midfielder to the acquisition of Willian would the minimum requirement for Arteta this summer.
