Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has provided an update on the situation of Riyad Mahrez heading into the beginning of the new Premier League season.

The Gunners are set to lock horns with the Foxes on Friday to kick off a 2017/18 campaign which will see them feature in the Europa League.

Arsenal’s clash with Leicester could witness Riyad Mahrez line up against the side whom he has been linked to for much of this summer.

The Algeria international is believed to be yearning for a move away from the King Power stadium following recent enquiries from suitors.

And when asked about the future of Mahrez, Shakespeare admitted that the club is now aware that the player no longer wants to remain with them.

“We know he wants to leave, but until we get a reasonable offer then he stays. He remains focused.” the Leicester boss said

“What I’ve seen is a focus from him (Mahrez) and a professionalism from him.

“Mahrez is different from Drinkwater, because he came out and said he wanted to leave. I’m not speculating on every player.”

The 25-year-old and AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar have been deemed as the two main stars whom Arsene Wenger is tracking as he looks to strengthen the Gunners’ attack.
