Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed why he believes David Luiz is on course to do well at Arsenal, following his transfer from Chelsea.

The 32-year-old spent two stints at Stamford Bridge, and after signing a new contract with the Blues towards the end of last season, the switch to north London came as a bit of a surprise.

After the exit of Laurent Koscielny, the Gunners were left with a void to fill at centre-back, a problem position last season as they conceded the most goals out of the top five clubs in the Premier League last term.

Luiz is expected to play an important role for Arsenal this season, as Unai Emery looks to secure a return to the Champions League for the club.

Speaking as a pundit, the Brazilian defender’s former manager, Jose Mourinho, has revealed why he believes Luiz will be a success at the Emirates stadium.

“David is a player [Unai Emery, his former Paris Saint-Germain manager] knows well,” Mourinho said – via Daily Star

“He knows what David can give and what David cannot give.

“I think we all know the good qualities of David and where he can improve teams.

“And I think we all know, probably I know a little bit better because I’ve coached him, that sometimes he makes mistakes, but he makes these mistakes especially when his concentration levels are low.

“And when you change to a new club and you have something to prove, I think it’s a good move for him.

“At this moment of his career to get this opportunity of a late move and stay in the Premier League at the highest level, for David, it’s a fantastic move.”
