Moyes gives latest on Jagielka/Arsenal situation

Reports that Arsenal have made a bid of £15M for Phil Jagielka are untrue.

According to Everton boss David Moyes, the Gunners have not renewed their pursuit of the defender – contrary to claims by tabloids.

The Merseyside club did reject a bid from Arsenal for Jagielka a couple of seasons ago and another one earlier this summer. But with only days left in the transfer window, Arsene Wenger may have to make a third desperate move.

In the wake of Gael Clichy’s departure, Arsenal have been linked to another Evertonian in left-back Leighton Baines, but, ahead of his side’s Carling Cup clash with Jagieka’s former club Sheffield United, Moyes denied the Gunners had made an approach for any of his highly-valued men.

“As of now we have received no inquiry from Arsenal for Jagielka or any other player at the club” Moyes said

Jagielka, 28, joined Everton in 2007 for £4m and has since won eight caps for England.

Meanwhile Arsene Wenger is reportedly eager to find a new club for the out-of-favour Sebastien Squillaci in order to fill his gap in the squad with a new acquisition.

  3. wenger doesnt want jagielka coz he’s not better than what we have and i agree with him.
which other teams are fighting for his signature? none
and this guy is going to solve arsenal problem for 15 millions, you need grow up

  4. So absolutely nothing to report then.

Wenger said that the defense was where we would look at strengthening, as we were naive and lacked composure in the big games (his words at the end of last season) now equates to Clichy out and Jenkinson in. Not dissing the lad but if this is the extent of Wenger’s plans to strengthen the defense (as it appears to be then we are even more screwed than I thought and Wenger is even more deluded about what it takes to win something than his last 3 seasons have led me to believe.

And reading his quotes today about intending to strengthen the midfield… translation “I won’t be buying any more defenders”.

    1. I agree with Wenger that our priority now must be mid field. Wenger seems to have sorted our defence out and with the squid gone and Miquel now fourth choice we seem much much better at the back- Mid field though is another story

  5. Wenger is killing our love for the club, we need experience players in both defence and midfield. Wenger save our soul

  6. wenger does’nt need to buy defender again we need 2 just pray fo vermelin not to get injure but we need atleast 2 experience midfielder dat is where arsenal dominate any game

  7. wenger just wasteing the time the transfer window will soon close in the end of the day he will say i trust my players and we used to sit down on the top of the talbe now we will sit down bottom of the table hhhhhhhhhaaaaaaa
