Arsenal have been boosted by the news that Bayern Munich could be without one of their experienced midfielders for Wednesday’s showdown.
The Gunners have arrived in Germany for the first leg of the round of 16 tie which will take place at the Allianz Arena, where they lost 5-1 last season.
Arsenal have their own injury woes heading into the clash but according to the Mirror, Bayern’s worries are getting worse after Xabi Alonso picked up a knee problem during training on Monday.
The 35-year-old reportedly ended the session early in severe pain and was taken away from the pitch in a golf buggy before receiving treatment from the medical staff.
As a result, Alonso is now deemed a major doubt for Wednesday’s match as the German side looks to maintain its dominant record against Wenger’s men.
Bayern Munich are already dealing with the absence of other key players as Jerome Boateng continues his recovery while Franck Ribery nurses a thigh injury.
Granit Xhaka, whose attributes have been compared to the injured Alonso in the past, is expected to return to Arsenal’s starting eleven this week.
