Criticism directed towards the aging Mikel Arteta has been echoed by former United States international Eric Wynalda.
The Arsenal skipper has been sidelined by another injury he suffered last weekend as Arsene Wenger’s men succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.
Arteta’s contribution in that game has been the subject of much criticism after he conceded the free-kick which led to the baggies’ equalizer before his own goal proved to be the match winner for Tony Pulis’ men.
According to Eric Wynalda who spent much of his career in Major League Soccer before retiring in 2001, Arsenal’s Spanish midfielder has become the team’s weak-link.
“I have a really good feeling about this Arsenal team this season. There is a lot more talent than before but to be honest they look much better when Arteta is off the field. He should not be playing.” Wynalda said during FOX Sports’ broadcast of the Dinamo Zagreb game.
The 33-year-old’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire in June 2016.
