Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could be without one of his key defenders for the rest of the season as he enters the new year at the club.

During his playing days, Arteta was of course part of an Arsenal team which was often hit with injuries as a host of key players spent time on the sidelines at vital moments in the season.

On Sunday, Calum Chambers limped off to be replaced by Shkodran Mustafi after appearing to have sustained some of sort muscle injury.

However, according to the Daily Mail, there are now growing fears that Chambers has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee after further assessments of the player on Monday.

If the Englishman has indeed sustained a knee problem of that nature, Chambers would be expected to miss the rest of the season as it usually takes almost a year to recover.

The ACL injury in particular has been troublesome for other Arsenal players after Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin were both sent to the sidelines for a long time around this time last year after suffering a similar set-back.
