Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry about the availability of Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuaín.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, representatives from the Gunners have met with the player’s agent Nicolas Higuaín, even though Arsenal’s proposal of a €40m transfer fee is deemed as too low by Napoli.

The Italian club managed to beat Arsenal to the signing of Higuaín during the summer of 2013 as Real Madrid offloaded the striker to the highest bidder.

However, after Napoli’s failure to secure Champions League football for next season, Higuaín has made no secret of his desire to weigh his options if the club receives any offers for his services.

Gazzetta dello Sport – who are renowned for breaking transfer news – are reporting that Arsenal have gathered a €40 million bid for Higuaín.

According to the Italian newspaper, the Gunners are still locked in talks with the Argentine star’s agent as Arsene Wenger pursues the addition of a goalscorer to his squad.

The 27-year-old scored 28 goals in 50 appearances for Napoli last season as the blues finished fifth in Seire A.
