Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has made a new prediction about Arsenal’s chances in the title race.

The Gunners are currently in second place in the Premier League, eight points behind league leaders Chelsea who appear to be running away with the title.

Despite bouncing back with three wins in four games since the back-to-back defeats against Everton and Manchester City in December, many still consider Arsenal as outsiders for the title due to their past collapses during the run-in of the season.

However, Ferdinand insists Liverpool’s recent decline means the Gunners along with neighbours Tottenham are actually the next favourites for the crown if Chelsea capitulate.

“If Liverpool don’t win [against Chelsea], they’re out of the title race – though in reality I see Arsenal and Tottenham as the only clubs capable of overhauling Chelsea.” the ex-England international said in his column

“Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are fighting it out below them. The title race is a matter for London. Fourth place is a battle for the northwest.”
