Ex-Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has given his interesting thoughts on the Gunners’ display at Basel on Tuesday.

Arsene Wenger’s men secured a first place finish in their Champions League group for the first time since the 2011/12 season as a 4-1 win at St. Jakob-Park and Paris Saint-Germain’s draw with Ludogorets helped them achieve that feat.

According to Ferdinand who has often been critical of the Gunners in the past, the sight of Arsenal winning so comfortably on what could have been a tricky night was very impressive.

“We spoke about momentum and confidence beforehand – this will do this Arsenal team the world of good.” he was quoted as saying on BT Sport

“It’s the mentality thing we’ve probably doubted over the last couple of seasons.

“But to go there and put a professional performance in and score some goals is very good – and it bodes well for this Arsenal side for me.”

The former United star also lauded the performance of Mesut Ozil who grabbed another assist as Alex Iwobi scored his first ever Champions League goal.

“We were all going crazy in here, not about the goal but just about the pass,” Ferdinand added

“It was a great run, and that’s why we were talking about before we like Ozil running in behind and having an effect, penetrative runs, because when he gets there, there’s not many better at seeing passes.”
