Shkodran Mustafi took to social media to send out an upbeat and defiant message to the Arsenal faithful after being left out of the squad which played against Crystal Palace in the Premier League last Saturday.

Following the club’s failure to qualify for a place in the Champions League last season, some may have expected the Gunners to clear out a host of underperforming players in the squad during the summer.

One man who definitely stayed on despite being one of the much-maligned players in the team was Shkodran Mustafi, a defender signed by Arsene Wenger back in 2016.

The German star’s erratic form has continued this season and that saw him miss out on a place in the Arsenal team for the trip to Crystal Palace last Saturday.

Despite being fit to play, Mustafi – an earner of £90,000-a-week wages (Mirror) – was not included in Arteta’s 18-man squad for the visit to Selhurst Park. And after that snub by the boss, the ex-Valencia star has responded by sharing with the fans how hard he is still working behind the scenes, no matter what.
