An ex-Premier League footballer has directed unnecessary criticism towards one of Arsenal’s valuable players.
Arsene Wenger’s men were slammed by many fans and pundits for failing to win the Premier League last season despite the struggles of major title rivals as Leicester City were crowned champions.
However, the Gunners have shown signs of an improvement so far this season, sitting only two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Even so, Sunday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur means some of the critics have returned and according to former Chelsea star Jason Cundy, star midfielder Mesut Ozil is not as good as many make him out to be.
“Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is the most overrated player in the Premier League,” he told Football Fan Zone. “Every week I get Arsenal fans bigging him up to me, telling me how good he is and that he’s world class but he’s not.
“If you want to talk about world class, lets look at someone like Luis Suarez for example, he’s the standard and Ozil can’t be mentioned in the same breath as the former Liverpool man.
“Last week we were forced to bow to the midfielder because he scored a wonder goal against a bunch of Bulgarian farmers to complete an Arsenal come back but: Why were Arsenal losing 2-0 in the first place? Who on earth are Ludogorets that we should be getting so excited?
“Even worse after such a ‘great’ performance mid week, you would have expected him to then put a Spurs side without a win in 6 games to the sword right? Wrong! Again he went missing when Arsenal needed him most.”
