Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has revealed the latest on Arsenal’s possible move for AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar.
Arsene Wenger has already made a couple of offers for the 21-year-old which have been instantly turned down by the Ligue 1 champions.
But the Arsenal manager appears to have not given up on Lemar – who is reportedly priced at €88.3 million (£80 million) – even though he is now in competition with Barcelona for the midfielder.
According to Sheth, the Gunners’ pursuit of the France international has slowed down but all hope is not lost.
“We are told today they [Arsenal] are now not in active talks with Monaco for the player but it should be noted they have not entirely ended their interest.” the Sky Sports journalist said
“Monaco’s stance has changed from their vice president saying he was not for sale two weeks ago, to their coach not guaranteeing he would be at the club come the end of the window.
“Barcelona are also thought to be keen. Intriguingly Monaco have just signed Algerian winger Rachid Ghezzal on a five-year contract.
“Ghezzal was a free agent following his release from Lyon.
“Perhaps we haven’t heard the last of Thomas Lemar to Arsenal in this transfer window.”
