Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has given his prediction for Arsenal’s upcoming fixture and it is certainly not a straight-forward one.
The Gunners are looking to register their second straight victory in response to the back-to-back 2-1 defeats at Everton and Manchester City which have severely derailed their title hopes.
Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace will see Arsene Wenger face another team managed by the often defensive-minded Sam Allardyce.
However, Paul Merson does expect Arsenal to keep a clean sheet as they did against West Brom on Monday.
Indeed, the pundit is tipping the Gunners to win by the odd goal in what he expects to be a goal fest on New Year’s day.
“I worry for Arsenal. They fall over the line against West Brom, thanks to Olivier Giroud.” Merson said in his pre-match column for Sky Sports.
“But the good thing I like about them, if they’re struggling, they put the ball into the box – unlike the last few years when they played it around like a power play in ice hockey, going from side to side.
“At least they put it in for Giroud and have a Plan B. But I see Palace causing them major problems, Arsenal won’t be able to live with Christian Benteke and they have pace as well. Prediction: 3-2 [to Arsenal]”
