Unai Emery appears to have made his first approach in his pursuit of a new winger, who will be able to strengthen his attack for next season.

The Gunners finished last season outside the top four of the Premier League before losing emphatically to London rivals Chelsea in the final of the Europa League.

After failing to qualify for the Champions League for yet another year, Arsenal will be short of funds to sign players of high quality in the transfer market.

But Unai Emery is still keen on securing the services of Wilfred Zaha, whom Crystal Palace are valuing at a very expensive price.

The 26-year-old, who scored against the Gunners in Palace’s 3-2 win at the Emirates Stadium last season, is believed to be desperate for a move to north London.

And according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Zaha, an earner of £130,000-a-week wages, is now the subject of a £40m bid from Arsenal.

The offered amount is only £5m short of the Gunners’ estimated budget for the summer, signaling Emery’s strong intent to add Zaha to his side.
