Arsene Wenger has admitted it may be time for Olivier Giroud to take a seat on the bench.

The French striker’s efficient hold up play and scoring form at the start of the campaign has contributed to Arsenal’s strong position in the title race as they sit level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier league.

But the goals have dried up for Giroud in recent games, and the former Ligue 1 top scorer has squandered a number of glorious goal-scoring opportunities including a couple of late chances against Chelsea on Monday.

The 27-year-old though, has rarely been given a rest with Nicklas Bendter’s appearance against Hull City the only occasion where Giroud was not handed a start in a league game this season.

And with Lukas Podolski now back in action while the January transfer window approaches, the boss now agrees that the Gunners may just need a new face upfront.

“The three games he played in six days had a big weight in our recent results, but since then we had nine days when we could recover and I think tonight he (Giroud) was not tired.” Wenger said

“I will have to rest everybody at some stage. Bendtner or somebody else (will have to start at some stage).”
