Arsenal players react after losing 2-1 at Everton

Sky Sports pundit and former footballer Gerry Francis has gone against the popular trend by actually heaping praise on Arsenal in the wake of their defeat at Everton.

The Gunners lost some ground in the title race on Tuesday as they succumbed to a 2-1 loss at Goodison Park despite being expected by many to secure all the three points, especially after taking a 1-0 lead from Alexis Sanchez.

Failure to put pressure on league leaders Chelsea has seen Arsene Wenger’s men receive more criticism from those who have doubted their title credentials from the beginning of the season.

However, Gerry Francis insists that Arsenal have shown enough this campaign to prove that the collapses which occurred in the past will not repeat this year.

“Arsenal, I think their attitude to chasing the game [against Everton] impressed me. That’s the one thing, there were no doubts in what they were trying to achieve and I think that was a real positive from their point of view.” Francis told Sky Sports News HQ

“I was still impressed with Arsenal, even though they came out on the wrong side of the result, if you look at them as title chasers, I’m pretty impressed with what they are doing.”

Francis has also dismissed fears that the Gunners will be on their way out of the title race if they lose at Manchester City this weekend.

“That would be two defeats on the trot, it doesn’t tell you anything. They’ve had a great start to the season, and there is a long way to go,” he said
