Van Persie criticized these 3 Arsenal players after Olympiacos game
Former Gunner Robin van Persie has criticized three Arsenal midfielders for not having enough quality to provide the right final pass for the men in attack this season.
Even though the results have slightly improved in recent weeks, there is no question about the fact that this has been a forgettable campaign for the Gunners so far.
New manager Mikel Arteta took his side to Greece on Thursday night as they faced Olympiacos in the first leg of the round of 32 tie in the Europa League.
The match against the Greek giants was a dull one to watch, largely because the Gunners carved out very few goal-scoring opportunities. Even though Alexandre Lacazette capitalized on a chance to score in the end, Robin van Persie did not hesitate to highlight the lack of creativity in the Arsenal midfield.
According to the BT Sport pundit, the trio of Joe Willock, Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka do not have the final ball to unlock the opposition’s defence, which can be frustrating for the Gunners’ attackers.
“But what is the reason why Arsenal don’t create so many chances, and I do believe that it is because of the midfield.” Van Persie said, as quoted by HITC
“The strikers don’t believe that that final ball can come. If you look at Xhaka, Willock, Guendouzi, they don’t really have the final ball in their locker, and I do think this affects the front-three in a bad way.”
