Wenger confirms Arsenal have reached transfer agreement for 26-year-old

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he is set to say goodbye to one of the longest-serving players in the Arsenal squad.

The Gunners manager was expected to permanently offload several players during last summer but only the likes of Gabriel and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlan were actually sold by the end of the transfer window.

And with the club seemingly in need of more space on the wage bill in order to purchase new signings, another sale is set to be made.

According to Wenger, reports suggesting that Francis Coquelin is on his way out of the club are indeed true.

The Arsenal manager confirmed after the 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday that an agreement has been reached with Valencia over the transfer of the midfielder.

“He goes to Valencia because he didn’t get enough games with us this season and he had an opportunity. I let him go,” Wenger said

Coquelin moved to the club as a youngster in 2008 but he took until the 2014/15 season to break into the first team after famously being recalled from a loan spell at Charlton Athletic.

The 26-year-old’s move to Valencia, which is worth around £12m, will see him reunite with former Arsenal teammate Gabriel.
