Following Saturday’s victory over Benfica in the Emirates Cup, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his top scorer from last season is on his way back.

The Arsenal manager watched his side thrash Benfica 5-2 on Saturday after a prolific second half display as Theo Walcott bagged a brace, while Alex Iwobi and Olivier Giroud got on the score sheet.

However, not involved in the clash with the Portuguese side was Alexis Sanchez who has been granted permission to return late ahead of the new season after playing for Chile in the Confederations Cup.

The 28-year-old, who is currently pocketing €156,000-a-week in wages, is still being linked with a move away from the Emirates stadium as Manchester City continue to show an interest in his services.

But Wenger is adamant that Sanchez will stay at the club and he has also confirmed the forward will be with the Arsenal squad by next week.

“He has flu, yes. I had him on text yesterday.” Wenger said after Saturday’s game

“He will come back as soon as possible and we were in touch with him and his doctor and he has no basic problem apart from the fact that he should come back tomorrow, but he comes back on Tuesday.”
