Arsene Wenger has revealed that star forward Alexis Sanchez encountered a fitness issue during Saturday’s clash with West Ham.

Arsenal extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 13 games by thrashing Slaven Bilic’s side 5-1 in a relatively comfortable trip to the London stadium.

The man with the biggest contribution from that victory was Alexis Sanchez who managed to find the back of the net three times in the second half after a sublime effort to set up the opening goal for Mesut Ozil.

It was a day to enjoy for the former Barcelona star, but Wenger has revealed that Sanchez, who was recently struggling with a calf strain, was not feeling so well at the break.

“He had a problem in his back at half-time, but he looked sharper in the second half than in the first!” Wenger said after the match.

According to the Arsenal manager, Sanchez is capable of becoming a reliable choice for the role at centre-forward.

“Look, he has all the ingredients to be a top class striker and he shows that now in every game. In a game like that today, again he is quick, he is quick to close down, he can dribble, he has short backlift.” he added

“He has a killer instinct and it shows again that the South Americans, at the moment in world football, are the leading strikers. You have to acknowledge that. If you look through the top strikers in Europe, they are basically all South American now.”
