Arsene Wenger has given his reaction to that goal from Mesut Ozil in Tuesday night’s 3-2 victory over Ludogorets.
The Gunners’ unbeaten run in all competitions appeared to be under threat as the Bulgarian side took a surprising 2-0 lead early in the first half.
However, goals from Granit Xhaka and Olivier Giroud were enough to spare Arsenal’s blushes going into the half-time break.
And the best strike of the bunch came very late from Mesut Ozil who dribbled past the goalkeeper and defenders to score the winning goal minutes before full-time.
The method which the German international used to score a simple one-on-one opportunity surprised Arsene Wenger who has revealed he thought Ozil had wasted the chance to score by holding on to the ball for so long.
“You know, I would say the great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face.” Wenger said in his post-macth interview
“They always make the optimal solution. To me it didn’t look for a while like the optimal solution, but when the ball was in the net I thought it was!
“You wanted him to take maybe his chance earlier but at the end he had enough skill to prove that he was right.”
