Wenger: My squad selection for Barcelona match

Arsene Wenger insists he is ready to name a full-strength Arsenal team to “make the impossible possible” in the clash with Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Gunners travel to Spain this week knowing that their Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread after losing the first leg of the round of 16 tie 2-0 at the Emirates stadium.

After Sunday’s disappointing result in the FA Cup, many believe Arsenal’s only realistic chance of avoiding a trophy-less campaign will be to capitalize on a miraculous collapse by Leicester or and Tottenham to win the Premier League title.

However, the Arsenal boss, who is expected to name Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal in the starting eleven on Wednesday, is targeting a tactical masterclass at the Camp Nou to remain in pursuit of the Champions League.

“We have shown that we can always respond. This team has a great spirit and a very strong attitude.” Wenger said

“They play at the moment with the idea that you cannot afford any negative results. We can deal with that and we will deal with the fact that we have a good opportunity to show on Wednesday that we are up for it.”

“We want to make the impossible possible [with our best line-up]. Barcelona are a very, very strong side and it’s very important that we go there, focus and show a good response.” he added.

I just hope Barcelona score 5 goals.Defensively Wenger is poor.
Another loss to Eveton shd force the board to axe him.
He has been given so much time to turn things round and yet the same mistakes,season after season are made.
This is surely criminal I don’t know of any top club who don’t sack their
managers for huge losses.

none of you are true gunners or have memory problems what wenger has done for the club and won have some respect and loyalty in the great man and I think we can get a result at the nou camp from a true proper arsenal fan

im a true gunner, but im fed up feeling anxious every time we play, year after year its the same problems ive supported arsenal for nearly 40 years and in the last 2 or 3 years I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EMBARRASSED, 6-0 chelsea, 8-2 manu 5-2 man city, 6-1 liverpool, we havent even beaten a team like Newcastle by that score line in the last 4 years!!

we are an embarrassment, too predictable in our play no actual game plan other than swarm forward en mass and pass pass pass, no-one shoots from range (where if we had people in the box we’d at least get scraps) when things are going wrong Wenger just sits on the bench and lets it happen until the last 15 mins when he’ll put on ANOTHER fast person, (with no real skill) and when we lose he’ll blame the ref for the foul that led to the opponents free kick or corner that led to their one shot on goal that they made count.

  Simon b, if you are a true Arsenal fan, at least sort out your memory. Some of those results you have stated there are non existent and a ‘farce’.
  For instance, 5-2 has been us beating Spurs (twice) and Leicester city. Can’t recall a Liverpool 6-1 score line either.

    i had no access to stats when i wrote that so 5-1 then v liverpool, (fair enough) but we were battered and raped …AGAIN! like a naive schoolgirl in the first 5 minutes, George graham built a team from defence up as all good managers do.
    
    You can’t deny this is ANOTHER underperforming year, (remember we only won 2005 FA cup on pens a DREADFUL performance as we held on for 120 minutes. 2 years ago EVERYONE whipped Man utd under Moyes, oh except us, this year, Chelsea are on the ropes – could we beat them? NO. We’ll go to Barca and probably win, but by not enough goals. (the usual) if we DO go through however we’ll lose the next round to a team of disabled chipmunks… probably oh and pick up 2 more injuries!

      Simon b, and you know this because…..? You did not recall that after that 5-1, we had something akin to a revenge, the season after, beating them 4-1, so these things do happen. The season has not gone well, but it is not over domestically. My concern is with the way our fans are already ‘wishing’ the team to lose, then turn around to slag them off when they oblige. I mean, if you didn’t expect a positive result, why the tantrums when your “expectations” are met?

Must we always be laughed at. Chelsea of yesterday can Bost of champion league. What is arsenal doing the man has done alot bt it is time to go we need trophies like league and champions league not FA cups we are fed up

  Attah, what you really want is something to gloat about, not because you truly care about the club. In history, no club has had a divine right to win things ‘forever’ and would go through a barren period. Arsene has won the FA cup (oldest and most prestigious association football competition) back to back and were unlucky not to beat Watford and you come on here to suggest the FA cup is no longer good enough, just because Arsenal won it?
