Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger appears to be hopeful of soon having some of his players who have been absent for several months back in action.

Despite last week’s League Cup exit to Southampton, the Gunners have all guns blazing once again after back-to-back emphatic victories in the Premier League and Champions League against West Ham and Basel respectively.

However, Arsenal’s rise to the top so far this season has been without the contribution of Danny Welbeck and Per Mertesacker who are both sidelined by knee injuries.

Both players were expected to be back in action by this month but Wenger has revealed that Welbeck and company are still taking their time to recover.

“They [Welbeck and Mertesacker] are recovering well but they are a few weeks away from joining in again.” the Arsenal manager said on Thursday

Another man on the long-term injury list is Santi Cazorla, who underwent an operation this week, and the Gunners boss has confirmed the Spaniard has just began his long road to recovery.

“It’s a difficult way to say the surgery is ‘perfect’, but you can say it was needed and it went well. Afterwards we have to see how he recovers.” Wenger added
