Arsene Wenger has given an update on the club’s efforts to retain the services of arguably its most valuable player this summer.

The Arsenal manager is preparing his side for a campaign which will see them feature in the Europa League following a fifth place finish last season.

And with only a year remaining on his deal at Arsenal, the uncertain future of Alexis Sanchez has dominated much of the headlines.

The Chilean international, who is currently on holidays after participating in the Confederations Cup, has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

However, when asked about the progress he is making in convincing Sanchez to extend his contract and stay at the club, Wenger revealed talks had been ‘positive’.

“Of course. There is not a lot to resolve at the moment with the player,” Wenger said

“I have spoken through text and it was very positive. My thoughts are always positive.”

Sanchez, who managed to score 30 goals in all competitions last term, joined the Gunners from Barcelona for £35 million after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
