Arsene Wenger insists the club will attempt to keep hold of last season’s top scorer for more than one season at least.
The Gunners are heading into the new campaign with severe uncertainty surrounding the future of star forward Alexis Sanchez who scored 30 goals in all competitions last term.
Even with rumours suggesting that he is pushing for a move away from the club, the Chile international looked to be in good spirits during Thursday’s open training session at the Emirates stadium.
According to Wenger, Sanchez is bound to remain at the club for next season but efforts will be made over a new deal to keep him for ‘more seasons’ as well.
“My decision is clear, he will stay. He will accept that.” the Arsenal boss said
“The frame of mind of a footballer is quite easy – once you go out into the game, you focus on that. (He is) good, you can see it in training.
“He needs to work on his fitness but he is sharp and looks like he has never been away.
“I think he will be here for this season. If we manage to do it for more seasons we will.”
