Arsene Wenger has revealed that one of his key players sustained an injury concern from Saturday’s clash with Southampton.
The Gunners recorded their second straight victory in the Premier League but it was by the skin of their teeth as it took a penalty-kick from Santi Cazorla in stoppage-time to secure the three points.
Laurent Koscielny, who was celebrating his 31st birthday, found the net with a memorable bicycle kick to level the score after the Saints’ opener.
However, the France international needed some medical attention after the game according to Wenger.
“Koscielny has a problem with his face. He’s with the doctor now. I haven’t spoken to him yet, but it is very swollen.” the Arsenal manager said
Wenger went on to praise the performance of Arsenal’s vice-captain who was in impressive form despite a fresh return from international duty.
“I give Koscielny a lot of credit. He was away in Belarus and came back on Thursday. Today he turns up again when you’re 1-0 down – that is fantastic”
