Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is still interested in completing a deal to sign more than one player before transfer deadline day.

Following the disappointment of finishing behind surprise Premier League champions Leicester City last season, the Arsenal boss has been urged to improve his squad by spending big this summer.

However, the addition of Granit Xhaka which was followed by an agreement to sign Takuma Asano and the arrival of Rob Holding this week, has not been enough to satisfy many who believe the Gunners still need more high-profile acquisitions.

According to Wenger, fans should remain patient because he is now targeting deals for a new defender and a forward.

“Look we look still for [new players in] offensive positions and defensive positions. We are very active in the transfer market,” Wenger told the club’s official website.

“It’s a long time to go. Everybody has the handbrake on at the moment. It’s a little bit of a poker game until mid August. So we might have to be good at poker,” Wenger added.
