Arsene Wenger has revealed that Paris Saint Germain midfielder Marco Verratti maintained he was innocent after the sending off on Tuesday.

The Gunners managed to secure a point through a goal from Alexis Sanchez with 13 minutes to go as PSG were left to rue their missed opportunities.

However, Arsenal’s positive result at the Parc des Princes was marred by a red card for Olivier Giroud late on in a needless incident between him and Marco Verratti.

According to Wenger, Verratti, who was also sent off, joined Giroud is telling him that the referee’s decision was incorrect.

“The ball was on the other side, I did not see what happened. I think the first yellow card [for Giroud] was very harsh already, it wasn’t a foul.” he said

“The second, he tells me he has done nothing at all and Olivier is honest so I believe him. And Verratti told me as well that he has done nothing, so I said look, ‘go together to see the referee and tell him you did nothing”
