Wenger: Why I rejected new striker signing

Arsene Wenger remains adamant that his decision to not add a new goalscorer to his squad was the right one.
Mohamed Elneny’s arrival from Basel was the Gunners only business in January as he became the first outfield player to join the first team since the signing of Gabriel 12 months ago.
After failing to score in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since 2009 – a run which has seen them drop from first to fourth on the table – Arsenal’s failure to find another striker in the transfer market has been scrutinized.
However, Wenger insists there were no options available last month to improve what his team has upfront.
“If you knew a world-class striker who could have strengthened our team, you should have told me before the transfer deadline was over.” the Frenchman said after the 0-0 draw against Southampton.
“They do not walk in the street and say ‘please, here is a world-class striker, can you take me?’ They are all at big clubs and are under contract. There were none available”
The Gunners fired more blanks on Tuesday despite having an almost fully-fit squad to call upon. Even so, Wenger plans to stick to his guns.
“We have Walcott, we have Giroud, we have Ozil, we have Alexis, we have Welbeck, who is coming back.” he added
“If tonight we think a miracle man could have scored the goal for us, I think it’s better we think how can we score the goals with the players we have? We can score goals, we have shown that before.”

New TV contract £££, small teams getting stronger, wenger still playing moneyball, 3 players in the last 3 windows, all cost < 10M, only 1 plays regularly.
Right footed Sanchez on the left, left footed Campbell on the right, both want to move inside, only width comes from our fullbacks leaving us fragile defensively when forward. Since we have no width, opposing defenses stuff the central areas in the final 3rd, makes for easy defending.
Wenger’s past it, tactics are stale and predictable. Challenging on 3 fronts?? By the end of the month, we'll be challenging for 4th…yet again.
Well said mate. Couldn’t agree more!
He’s probably right. Why buy another player and not play him? no point..
Wenger has passed his sell by date long time ago, how to find world class strikers, that’s you bloody job go and find one if you can’t give it someone else, for the last 2 season it’s been giroud and the excuses this man comes up with is laughable..
the time for him to leave is now. but truly is up to the emirate fans to demand his exit.
Wenger saying no world class strikers available is the same old lame excuse..what he means by that statement is he’s not prepared to pay for class, instead he’s happy to stick with dross, and blame everyone and everything else..would Leverkuson have turned down a bid of around 16 million for Hernandez? I doubt it as it would have been double what they paid for him last summer..And I for one rate him 10 times better than our current options of Walcott and Giroud…. Giroud tries and is a good back up option..but Walcott has flattered top deceive far too often… We could also have gone for Cavani..but we didn’t it’s the same old story every season..Wenger doesn’t want to use the budget he’s given, and until he changes (never happen)..we’ll keep crap and not buy class.
As Arsenal fans, we are tired of Arsene Wenger’s such comments; he has always said the same. My opinion is that Wenger has literary refused to learn from his previous mistakes. He does not want to agree that other people understand this game and can analyze strengths and weaknesses of his team. He has therefore refused to accept that other can offer good, focused and meaningful suggestions. Please manager, give us a break and bring in a clinical striker to arsenal….the soonest!
Let dis old Idiot cargo (AW) leave…we ar tired of dis flimsy excused….
Overreaction, all the way, the day after the night before. Can anyone mention a top class striker who moved in the January window and to any top club? Just one, that is better than what we have and make immediate and sustained impact. We just look for who/what to blame when it was evident keeper Forster just had a great game and the S’pton team does play a high pressing game that is discomfiting for the game we play. We have to calm down as there is still a lot to play for and winning the league is not always an easy ride.
the only time arsenal are gong to lift up the trophy is when this three idots go
1 .arsene wenger
2 .mathiue flamini
3.per martersacker
otherwise arsenal will always be fourth in every season
Jamari, The first has won Arsenal 3titles and 6 FA cups; plus 5 (?) Charity shields; the second was in the 3 FA cup winning squads for Arsenal while the 3rd is a World Cup medalist so, your argument stands logic on its head and is without basis.
Wenger thinks arsenal is his, well without 6o,000 od fans turning up he’d have nothing
Yes, we have good players, but certainly no adequate coach, we have a coach with merit for the club, but now his time has passed. Arsenal game is a mirror of the nature of Wenger. A litle artistic, intellectual, gentle, less leveraged. If you make frequent appearances at corners Cech will be even more valuable. Bellerin is uncertain and always stops and fed back, Koscielni is capable but often without concentration, like Ramsey Campbell is weak and run in vain, Flamini is like Wenger, Walcott is talent but something prevents it shine, it is very gentle, Coquelin, Ozil and Sanchez have class. Giroud is 50/50. Where is Cazorla, Elneny, where is striker like Aguero or Suarez. ???
Where is the vortices attacks, where physical force in single combat, where is the press… Where is Arsenal…
That is some post. Now, can you repeat it in English?
