Fantasy Debate: Which Arsenal player do you trust the most on PKs?
Welcome to the Fantasy Debate.
This is where an unthinkable (perhaps unrealistic) topic/question is posed for your interesting responses.
Let your views be heard in volumes and note that you can instantly show you agree or disagree with someone through the thumbs up/down rating at the top left of a comment.
The comment with the most thumbs up will ultimately be the most agreed and reasonable answer. Your views matter most here and let’s hope we keep this discussion as exciting as ever.
Ridiculous questions or imaginations are what Fantasy Debate is all about so please don’t be offended.
Today’s topic:
Robin van Persie.
The sublime technique that he puts on his PK’s makes it almost impossible for any keeper to save (apart from that Man City PK a few years back). Just imagine how you are going to save a ball curving towards the farthest end of the goal, the keeper doesn’t stand a chance!
RVP
RVP
rvp
rvp !! one of the best pk taker in d world
Undoubtedly Van Persie, he’s the penalty taker for a reason, and I’ve only ever seen him miss one penalty, against Man City at home in the 07/08 season when Joe Hart saved it, and it wasn’t a particularly bad penalty either.
After him though we don’t seem to be too good at taking penalties, Bendtner’s penalty against Portsmouth was good, Sagna seems able and Arshavin ought to be quite good as well.
I still feel RVP goes for power rather than placement when taking PKs and that’s risky because you may end up hitting it way over or have it stopped. Don’t just say him because of the choice of photo up there in the article.
To be honest, penalties were one thing I trusted Adebayor on because he never missed any during his Arsenal days and always placed it low and perfect. He was somewhat a PK specialist, Adebayor.
But in the current squad, I would go with cool finishers like Eduardo and Vela. And yes, I know Eduardo missed one against Roma after returning from injury last season.
But penalties are about being cool and holding your nerve from 12 yards out. You don’t rush the ball.
I beg to disagree on this one Randy, I don’t think that my penalties are based on power alone. If you’ll look closely at how I place my penalties, you will notice that they’re always tucked at the corner of the net most of the time, and with enough power to boot!
I’ll have to agree with the pk taker’s attitude though. Of course you should keep your cool and composure especially in such occasions, otherwise, you might slip while taking it, hit the post, and end up in tears.
v. Persie
no reason anyone else should be taking them if he is on the pitch…they are unstoppable
apart from that I’m not to sure of anyone else’s quality from the spot I would think arshavin is alright…eduardo has not impressed on his few chances…I wonder if Vermaelen could take a pk
but when has a v. Persie pk NOT been placed
he’s got teh technique to rifle it into the corner…you can’t beat that
Emmanuel Eb…oue!! is my choice. I kind of like the way he celebrate.
RVP or Arshavin!!
I’v never seen Arshavin take a PK, He will surely put a hole n d net if he does!!
RVP’s technique z pure class
Penalty kick is like a lottery. The taker just need to place or blast the ball whereas the onus is on the keeper to guess whether to dive left, right or stay put. I believe anybody can take the PK.
Taking penalty requires a little skill and plenty of luck.
I have never seen RVP kick it just with power. He def has placement and is very good at it! There is no doubt RVP is the best PK taker on the team! Power and precision! He has it all to take a penalty! Besides, RVP I think Nasri is good at Pks.
Sorry, Randy I have to call you out on this one. You are wrong by saying, he goes for power rather than placement. He does take his free kicks for a reason..power and placement!
Eduardo, Vela, RvP, Arshavin, Rosicky and Eboue are my favorite PK takers.
I chose Emmanuel Eboue to be my favourite penalty taker because he always smile at the opposing keeper before kicking.Talking about having a confident & a cool head, Eboue is 2nd to none.
But that was the one and only time Eboue took a PK.
RvP all the way.
From memory, Sagna did seem to have a bit of that Lauren cool about him though. Remember that Ralph was one of the designated PK takers in a team which included technicians as classy as Pires.
penalty kicks are a mixture of technique and self confidence. its the latter that counts more often.
I have seen Micheal Jackson taking and scoring a penalty in an old video. What a guy!
LOL…come on Kidz, you’ve never stopped this random mentioning of MJ since one reader made a random comment with his name when he died. I remember. 😛
rvp. or vela.
Emir, great point.
ROBIN VAN PERSIE!!!!!!
Spot on Randy. I really missed him (MJ) a lot.The greatest entertainer the world ever witness.
I actually heard that when he trains with Holland, he TELLS Van Der Sar where he’s going to shoot. This improves his chances of scoring even if the keeper guesses right.
RVP
usually the thunderous shot reaches the net b4 the keeper reaches either side of the posts.
Robin van Persie – no doubt in my mind. He is coolheaded and clever.
Rvp
arshavin because he has a cool head and he is talented he wont let the pressure get to his head
Are you guys kidding? RVP?!?!?
Silvestre is obviously the best PK taker on the team, he composure, he clinical finishing, its just sublime!
Im kidding, of course, RVP can’t miss.
I would trust Arshavin, Eduardo, Cesc, Rosciky.
And actually, Diaby can slam em in the corner too.
rosicky
Lauren was one hell of a penalty taker
