Fantasy Debate: Which particular player should be signed next month?
Welcome to the Fantasy Debate.
This is where an unthinkable (perhaps unrealistic) topic/question is posed for your interesting responses.

The comment with the most thumbs up will ultimately be the most agreed and reasonable answer. Your views matter most here and let’s hope we keep this discussion as exciting as ever.
Ridiculous questions or imaginations are what Fantasy Debate is all about so please don’t be offended.
Today’s topic:
David Villa
Good choice but there are a couple of things that keep my mind off his name.
1. He is not necessarily the bulky, tall, powerful striker we need. (Like Ibra or Drogba). Not saying he will be bullied up front…but we all know another frontman who often wants the ball on the ground may not do.
2. His price. Valencia won’t give him up any cheap unless Wenger opts to pull another ‘Arshavin’ bargain. With Gazidiz in the seat, you never know these days.
i think we can get jason roberts for cheap he is tall strong and can finsh
Hi dears
for me the best move would be Gignac from toulouse or dzeko/grafiti from Wolfsbourg Lavezzi (Napoli) or even more Aguero could be a great transfer why not van nistelrooy
randy – agree with your assessment of villa.
i thought for a minute that pavyluechenko would do. obvious problems: spurs would never sell to us and he’d be expensive.
one of my buddies at the pub is russian, been following AA for years. told me that AA for 12-13 mil. was a bargain, but Pav. for 14 mil. (or whatever spurs paid) was WAY overpriced. my boy says he can’t finish. i youtubed Pav. and there’s many sweet goals. but, as my russian friend points out: youtube is rubbish for sizing up a footballer. da, da my friend.
in the days of fifa, fantasy footy and all that, i thank the maker that AW ignores the idiot ramblings of rabble like us!
Carlton Cole!
We need big strikers as Drogba or Zlatan , for me i wish to see players as Huntelaar , David Villa or Dzeko joining us
Dzeko is Cup-Tied in the CL and will be too expensive
Huntelaar’s form has been suspect in his last two clubs, so why buy?
Pavyluechenko? What!? Couldn’t make the cut at Spuds. So why gamble?
My pick will be Carlton Cole – he’s not CL cup-tied, big, strong, not injury prone (ignore his latest injury), good header, good technique and he’s English. I’m not English btw…i just think we need a couple more English players in the Arsenal first team. He’d also be cheap and will be glad to come with the World Cup loomiing – may not make the squad if he remains at West Ham and so there’s plenty of incentive for him to come
It all depends on how much any of these players would cost but luis suarez would be my first choice. One of those with an insane goalscoring record in holland – which doesnt guarantee he will score in the PL (eg Kuyt) but he is ajax’ captain and does have impressive skill. I like him because he is the most van persie-like player i can think of and could inject a bit of leadership which is sometimes missing since van persie got injured.
If not I like carlton cole and gignac but as I said, it depends how much these guys would cost and I have no idea about that tbh
Edin Dzecko would be the most obvious choice here.
he has, by far, the best scoring record of any striker potentially available.
this is not ignoring Huntelaar’s outstanding scoring record whilst at Ajax, but in current, not prolific enough.
Dzeck is a proven goalscorer, baggin 30+ goals, in under 50 games last season, and has already hit 13 this year in all competitions.
The fact he is cup tied, in my opinion is, although a set back, not the end of the world.
Arshvin last year was cup tied, Dzeck bring experience, finishing and class to a team who is lacking just that, especially without VP.
besides Van persie, and dzeko upfront together??
what a frightning prospect
Guys, what about Fred or Adriano?
-Both of them have had great seasons in Brazil.
-They have both played in Europe at top clubs before.
-They can both play as a frontman in a 4-3-3 formation.
-With the World Cup just around the corner I can see reasons for them to be motivated and therefore play well.
-And above all it’s the sort of bargain you would expect from Mr Wenger.
I agree regarding Dzeko he’s a monster, makes difficult headers look average. Really fast for a large guy and good feet. When he played against Man United he struck instant fear into their defense and Vidic was still around for that game.
If Arsenal picked him up I think he’d be great even if he is cup tied. Are problem with size is on occurs in Premier League games so I don’t worry about UCL. But from Dzeko’s perspective why would he leave a team where he can play Champion’s League to go to a team where he’d be cup tied.
Wolfsburg are knocked out of the UCL so Dzeko obviously can’t go on and play in the competition this season.
You should’ve known that.
Oops you’re definitely right. I guess only thing stopping him now is money and his so called love for AC Milan.
Is it only me? Why is no one talking about Luis Fabiano?
I have to be honest and admit that, apart from goal replays, I have never seen the player play that I am about to suggest:
Fernando Llorente
I read over the summer that Wenger was following him
aged 24, the Spanish International has 13 goals in 25 games this season, is 6’5″, and is the leading scorer in the Europa League (which means that he isn’t cup-tied)
also, because he is younger and plays for Athletic Bilbao you can bet that he’d come at at least half the price of Villa or Dzenko (of course he isn’t a player who’s proven himself at the same level as them)
I also like ray parlour’s idea that we bring in a striker on loan. That way we could get a proven goal scorer and still have some funds to spend on someone like Felipe Melo who supposedly is already on his way out Juventus. Even though he hasn’t been in the best form I have no doubt that the professor could get the best out him
If the aim is to find a temporary replacement for Van Persie, then i believe Van Nistelroy would be the ideal candidate. He is a proven striker who knows the premier league inside out,is not cup tied, as far as i know[having been out injured all season],and would not cost a bundle.
The best players we could buy are dzenko, Barlotelli the Inter player(or however his name is spelt), huntelaar etc.
Or if Arsenal are broke and cant afford a proper player, then I say, try and get hold of Chamakh (although not the best goal scoring record ever) he can dribble like Ronaldo, has pace , link up play is good and he is tall and heads the ball well. Finishing is a bit suspect, but he has 7 goals in 14 appearances this season, which is decent. Most importantly, he shouldnt cost more than £5-7 million, whereas all the other players above will cost a fortune.
I say buy chamakh and buy a defensive midfielder for a total price of £17-£20 million.
Only two words…simple..
Aiyegbeni Yakubu…
-cheap
-proven PL striker
-down the pecking order @ everton
-at the right age 29yrs old.
-can score goal for fun!(he was top scorer with shit club Boro few years back!)
He will not do. He like Song is bound for the Nations Cup in Angola
The strikers I am hoping for are: Dzeko, Chamakh, Carlton Cole, Balotelli and maybe Gignac. All other strikers are either too expensive or simply not good enough. Although I am interested in Lukaku, never seen him and don’t know anything about him but I heard he was good.
why not hulk he s strong powerful…. c. cole is also a good choice.or dzeko
thoughts on the polish prince…..podolski??
Loan Huntelaar for 6 months, with option to buy…
luca toni on loan and evidently not cup tied
its just a thought, know wont happen…..but podolski @koln would b a good fit
–not cup tied
–has strength, pace, vision
–not 2 young…but young enough 4 wenger
–def not 2 expensive
–powerful accurate left foot
–(4 the naysayers who will bring up his bayern spell)…..2 many big name strikers in the squad, but anytime started(rarely) or was brought on as a sub…..he created & scored goals
–also just look @ his goal/assist ratio 4 the national team….obviously can produce when he gets the service(also the reason why he isnt scoring @ koln….noservice, which our boys will give him in abundence)
–has 2 b dying 2 get back 2 scoring goals with WC around the corner
WONT HAPPEN, BUT LIKE I SAID @ START….something 2 think about
